The Arts
Art is an integral part of our lives. It is a powerful means through which to communicate personal values and beliefs, ideas and creativity.
The study of Art at Beechworth Secondary College involves the development of skills in research, analysis and art criticism. Students also create artworks and develop skills in a range of visual and performing arts media and techniques.
Year 7 is a foundational year. Students are introduced to the ‘language of art’ and the ‘art world’ and gain experience in a variety of expressive forms. These include Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Digital Media and Visual Communication.
Year 8 & 9 students refine their skills by electing to specialise in a specific expressive form.
Year 10 prepares the students for VCE study.
VCE students can elect to study Units 1 to 4 in Art, Study Design or Visual Communication.
Excursions and trips to Galleries, Artists, Design Studies, Museums and places of Cultural significance are an integral compulsory component in the study of Art.
Instrumental Music, group or private tuition is available for students wishing to learn an instrument or to participate in a band.
