Beechworth Secondary College - Our College

Principal's Welcome

Beechworth Secondary College is committed to safety and wellbeing of all children and young people.  This will be the primary focus of our care and decision making

Beechworth Secondary College is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Particular attention will also be paid to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds.

I joined the community of Beechworth Secondary College as Principal in 2017. Situated in the Indigo Shire in a beautiful setting with extensive grounds, the school has strong links with its local community in the historical town of Beechworth. It is a rural school of 250 students drawn from the surrounding towns of Beechworth, Yackandandah, Osbornes Flats, and the wider Indigo Valley.

Our teachers are dedicated to achieving the best possible learning outcomes for our students. They embrace the philosophy of life-long learning and work in learning teams to develop and implement relevant and innovative programs. We want our students to value challenge and recognise the rewards that persistence and a strong work ethic brings.

The school offers a range of courses catering for the different learning needs and styles of our community. With both mainstream and a Montessori stream as options for the 7-9 students, students may move between the programs as needed. The Montessori Program M.A.P, is a system of education for young children that seeks to develop natural interests and activities. With VCE, VCAL and VET in Schools subjects for senior students, a three year VCE program and access to online courses, our students have many opportunities to access learning programs to suit their needs. They can specialise in subject areas which best support their future aspirations.

Beechworth Secondary College focus is to be a stimulating learning community where all are encouraged to make the most of the educational opportunities and the many options available through the rich extra curricula programs. We aim to further the growth and development of the whole child

Connecting Communities – Widening Worlds... This vision is about preparing young people to become active, engaged, and responsible global citizens. We prepare students for a dynamic 21st century in which creativity, cooperative work, connectedness to the world and adaptability are key features. The college works to build resilience, a positive approach to life and prepares students for the technological world beyond school.

Our College values are Respect, Achievement and Community and these values underpin everything we do. The benefits of belonging to a smaller school, is having a strong connection to the school, a sense of community and the advantages of a more individual learning program. I encourage parents to become actively involved in the support of the schools development and their child’s learning.

I invite parents to make the time to arrange a tour of the school to personally discuss the opportunities available for your child.
